Celebrity owned restaurants are all the rage, of late. From Shilpa Shetty to Priyanka Chopra, it’s not uncommon to find celebrities donning the entrepreneurial cap and opening restaurants that serve the most delicious food in town. The latest celebrities to do so, are the Jonas brothers. The Jonas family have opened a new restaurant in Las Vegas called Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, honouring their great grandmother. This restaurant in Las Vegas isn’t the first restaurant that the Jonas brothers have opened. Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, first opened in Belmont, North Carolina, and the new restaurant in Las Vegas is the second branch of this restaurant. Looks like Priyanka Chopra isn’t the only one in the marriage to have a restaurant to her name.
Talking to a leading travel magazine in New York, Joe Jonas shared the reason for opening a new branch of Nellie’s Southern Kitchen. "There are a lot of amazing recipes that we have had in the family for many years that we serve here," Joe Jonas told the magazine, adding, “Our great-grandmother made very traditional chicken and dumplings and biscuits and gravy. We like to have them in our own home and share them with our friends and fans." The intent of expanding their business in the F&B industry comes from a love for their great grand mother’s home cooked meals. What can be more heart warming than this?
When you enter Nellie’s expect to see a painting of Nellie herself, with a banjo in her hand and a pet dog by her side. Did you know that Jonas family’s youngest brother Frankie has worked at the restaurant’s Carolina branch before? "I know these recipes like the back of my hand. If there's anything I know how to cook, it's Southern food. I can cook a biscuit and a chicken real well,” he shared with the leading publication.
The Jonases have shared the motivation for honouring their grand mother on the restaurant’s website. Talking about their journey as they grew up, Kevin Jonas Sr has shared, “The Jonases didn't have much, but they had love, music and the comforts of home… Every day, my grandmother would come home with cotton in her hair... and make the most amazing chicken and dumplings, biscuits and gravy. And this is our way of paying honor to her and all the good people of Belmont.” Remembering Nellie for her hospitality, a note on the website reads: Nellie's family remembers her as an incredible cook and a gracious hostess who focused on simple, fresh ingredients and on making people feel at home. "Her biscuits were always perfect," marvels Cecilia Lucas, Nellie's daughter. "And they didn't just taste good; they always looked so pretty."
The Jonas family even has plans of expanding their restaurant internationally. Can you guess which city they are considering? It’s Mumbai! Kevin Sr. told the publication, “There are some opportunities in the US we are exploring, but I would love to be in Mumbai. If I were choosing a culture and city we love — Mumbai is a very special place." We are sure you’re as excited as we are for the plans of the Jonas family to materialise soon.
