Let’s admit it. Train journeys in India are incomplete without food. You either pack dabba-full of snacks for yourself, or you get down on stations for the much-needed ‘refreshments’ in form of chai, bonda, samosa... We love how these refreshments also change from station to station, as every region has its own set of special delicacies that also make their way to the railway stations. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) published a list that reveals the best food to eat at some of India's popular railway stations. Read on to know which foods made the list.

At the Guwahati railway station, in Assam, Lal Chah or Assam’s heritage red tea was adjudged the best, while in Kharagpur Junction West Bengal, it was the Aloo Dum that took the coveted spot. One of the country’s oldest railway stations, Howrah Junction is home to delicious Sandesh that are a must try as per IRCTC. Moving further, Litti-Chokha at Patna Junction, Bihar, Fish Curry at Tatanagar Junction, Jharkhand, Aloo Chaat at New Delhi Railway Station, Aloo Tikki at Tundla Junction, Uttar Pradeshy, Moong Dal Pakoda at Bareilly Junction, Uttar Pradesh, Lassi at Amritsar Junction, Punjab and Chole Bhature at Jalandhar City Junction, Punjab.

In Rajasthan and parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, many quick, crispy nibbles made the list, along with regional beverages such as Kadhi Kachori of Ajmer Junction, Rajasthan, Camel Milk Tea of Surendranagar Junction, Gujarat, Kanda Poha of Ratlam Junction, Madhya Pradesh, Batata Vada and Pav Bhaji of Mumbai Central, Maharashtra. Drooling much? Wait, the list does not end here, there’s a whole gamut of foods you need to know of in the South of India after all.

Dal Vada and Idli at Vijayawada Junction, Andhra Pradesh, Ven Pongal and Utappam at Guntakal Junction, Andhra Pradesh, Rava Dosa at Chennai Central, Tamil Nadu, Pazham Pori at Ernakulam Junction, Kerala, Appam-Stew at Thiruvananthapuram Central, Kerala, and finally Kozhikode Halwa at Kozhikode Railway Station, Kerala, were some of IRCTC’s top picks.

So how many of these have you tried?
