Pick A Theme

As monsoon is winding up in the rest of the country and autumn stands on the periphery to be welcomed, fallen leaves, orange runners, and some fresh flowers will help you set the perfect ambience. You can also go with the clean green, pastel party, or a festive theme. It will help you plan the menu, set the table, pick the tableware, and decorate the space accordingly. Make sure to pick a table runner that will compliment your tablecloth.

Dinnerware Settings

You start with arranging the plates. Dinner plates are always the centre of the show, and hence, are kept in front of every seat. They are topped with quarter plates for salads and starters. Once appetisers are done, you and your guests can dig into the main meal. The small plates are topped with a bowl for soup, fruits, and yoghurt. Depending on what you are serving, napkins are placed on the top of the quarter plate, bowl, or left of the dinner plate. If you are offering tissues, keep them on either side of the centrepiece so that everyone can access them.

Glassware

Are you serving mimosas for brunch? The cocktail and wine glasses are always added right and slightly above the water glasses placed above the knife, towards right. Cup and saucer or coffee mugs are set on the right but above the spoon and knife. It makes it easy for people to access the beverages while eating without going through the trouble of standing or crossing hands.

Serving Trays & Platters

At the centre of the table, you will place your platters and trays. Whether you have invited friends or relatives, the rule remains unchanged. Starting arranging platters on either side of the centrepiece. It will make it easy for everyone at the table to access the dishes and pass them on to the next person on the table. If you are setting a buffet, arrange the platters on either side of the table.

Flatware

Fork always goes on the left and knives and spoons are placed on the right side of the dinner table. You must make sure that the blade is facing the plate, and the spoon is right beside it. If you will be serving dessert later, place the smaller forks, spoons, or even knives horizontally on the top of the dinner plate.

Condiments

Never forget to add condiments to the table. For example, pickles, sauces, spreads, butter, jam, etc. in a smaller bowl. Instead of placing an entire jar, serve a small amount, and you can refill it later. This will prevent you from making the table appear crowded and cluttered. You should also add small spoons, forks, and knives so that your guests can serve them.
