The term "oatmeal" can refer to food made from oats, oat groats, steel-cut oats or rolled oats. The term "rolled oats" refers to those which have been flattened by steaming. Although oats were grown in ancient China as early as 7000 B.C., the Greeks were the first to consume oatmeal in the form of the familiar porridge-style cereal.  The whole grain is gluten-free and has all the nutrients your body requires, including fiber, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, iron, zinc, and antioxidants. Because oats are high in fiber and keep you full and satisfied for a longer period of time, eating them for breakfast is considered to aid in weight loss.  As a reminder, January is National Oatmeal Month.
