When someone asks what India eats, there is no one better to answer than food aggregator platforms like Swiggy. From morning to midnight, when people are awake, the restaurants continue to serve. Whether one needs groceries or a midnight snack, riders are always ready to deliver essentials to your doorstep.
Recently, Swiggy has released a survey of the new trend in metropolitan cities. Did you know that many IT hubs in India are inclining towards a vegetarian diet? Well, not entirely, but the survey shows surprising results regarding what people prefer to order in these cities.
1 In 3 Orders On Swiggy Is Vegetarian In Bengaluru
Bengaluru, also referred to as the Silicon Valley of India, tops the list of cities in which more and more Swiggy customers are ordering vegetarian meals. The report calls the city ‘Veggie Valley’ too. One in three Swiggy orders in the city is vegetarian.
The report claims that the top vegetarian dishes ordered by customers in Bengaluru are - paneer butter masala, paneer biryani, and masala dosa. People living in one of the busiest cities in India love the creaminess and nutrition that paneer adds to the recipe. As a person living in Bengaluru, you must be an ardent fan of South Indian delight, especially dosa.
Bengaluru is one of few cities in South India where you can plan a breakfast trail to relish idli, dosa, vada, and other South Indian staples. Known as the melting pot of Indian cultures, this city has a lot to offer to foodies much like the capital and financial capital of India.
Mumbaikars Love Their Pav Bhaji And Dal Khichdi
When you think about Mumbai, you imagine street food - pav bhaji, vada pav, misal pav, pani puri, charred corn, and more. While the city of dreams is known for its seafood and meat-based delicacies, Mumbaikars are also inclined towards ordering vegetarian food.
The Swiggy report showcases the top vegetarian dishes that are popular among locals. This list includes dal khichdi, Margherita pizza, and pav bhaji. Residents of Hyderabad are also not far behind in ordering masala dosa and idli.
90% Of Breakfast Orders Are Vegetarians
According to the Swiggy report, the maximum number of vegetarian orders are placed in the morning. It indicates a shift in how cautious people are becoming about their diet. Instead of ordering unhealthy fast food and heavy meat-based delicacies, they prefer to order lightweight and fulfilling food.
The report claims that 90% of breakfast orders comprise vegetarian dishes, mostly vada, masala dosa, pongal, and idli. You will be surprised to note that masala dosa emerged as the most popular dish for breakfast, lunch, and dinner across India. Not just that, Margherita pizza is the most popular Indian snack with pav bhaji and samosa following its trail.
Among the 6000 and more weekly salad orders on Swiggy, the top pick was a green salad. The platform also witnessed a 146% rise in vegan orders indicating that Indians are becoming aware of their body and nutrition requirements. In the limelight of the survey, Swiggy has come up with Green Dot Awards which will recognise the vegetarian restaurants serving delicious delicacies across 80 Indian cities.
