In 2023, it's Google’s world and we just live in it. Every day millions if not billions of searches are run through the most popular search engine on the internet and as a result, it’s become one of the most effective tools to gauge what’s trending. To keep us in the know, they release Google’s Year In Search an annual report which runs through all the top searched keywords in different categories for each country and globally.
Their 2023 round-up just dropped and it revealed everything that India searched for this year from movies to matches to food and boy is it a mixed bag. The list of most searched recipes this year was dominated by festive recipes while the top two spots were claimed by the Sex On The Beach cocktails and Mango Pickle at the top spot.

Here’s a rundown of the complete list:
1. Mango Pickle Recipe
It’s no secret that India is mango crazy and that love extends far beyond when mango season is over. You’ll be hard pressed to find a household in the country that doesn’t have a jar of mango pickle stashed in the fridge, and now we know why!
2. Sex On The Beach Recipe
A mix of peach schnapps, orange juice and cranberry juice, this fruity drink with a risque name was created in 1987 and has been giving drinkers a chuckle ever since. In a surprise twist, it’s beaten out many more trendy cocktails to nab the second place on the list.
3. Panchamrit Recipe:
A sacred beverage in India, is crafted from five essential ingredients: milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar. Primarily used in puja ceremonies, it is first offered to deities and then shared as prasad.
4. Hakusai Recipe:
A dip into India’s affinity for Korean cuisine, this dish is a pickle made with salted and pickled Napa cabbage with carrots, kombu, dried japones, and kosher salt and is an essential ingredient in creating the famous side dish, kimchi.
5. Dhaniya Panjiri Recipe:
A festive and fasting treat, Dhaniya Panjiri blends roasted coriander powder with makhana, grated coconut, sugar/jaggery, and dry fruits. Rich in fibre, antioxidants, and essential nutrients, it serves as a nourishing option during fasting.
6. Karanji Recipe:
Similar to gujiya, karanji is a sweet delicacy enjoyed during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, and Holi. Crafted from all-purpose flour, semolina, and ghee, it features a sweet filling of roasted desiccated coconut, mawa, nuts, seeds, powdered sugar, or jaggery.
7. Thiruvathirai Kali Recipe:
A sweet with a mythological legacy and a revered bhog for the Tamil Nadu festival of Thiruvathirai, this dish incorporates coarsely ground rice, moong dal, jaggery, cardamom, nuts, and coconut.
8. Ugadi Pachadi Recipe:
Made with neem flowers, raw mango, jaggery, pepper powder, coconut, and salt, it is a cherished dish during the auspicious occasion of Ugadi. A festival favourite in Southern states, Ugadi Pachadi combines six tastes - sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter, and astringent.
9. Kolukattai Recipe:
A popular sweet during Vinayaka Chaturthi in the South, Kolukattai (also known as Kozhukattai) are steamed dumplings that feature a rice flour dough filled with a sweet mixture of coconut and jaggery, commonly found in the kitchens of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
10. Rava Ladoo Recipe:
Crafted for festive and auspicious moments, Rava Ladoo is a straightforward blend of semolina, ghee, sugar, and cardamom. Shaped into round laddoos, this simple yet delightful treat is ready to be shared as prasad or gifts during festivals.
