India is renowned for its diverse range of spices and flavourful cuisine. Many dishes created using these spices and blends have gained international recognition for their distinct taste. However, now it's time for the humble vada pav to take the spotlight, and rightfully so. After all, this simple snack has been satisfying the hunger pangs of countless people for years. For the uninitiated, vada pav consists of a crisp, deep-fried potato ball coated with besan and sandwiched between a square-shaped bun called a pav. The pav is slit in the centre and garnished with green chutney and red chilli paste. The dish is served hot with thick green chillies on the side.

Interestingly, the website's official Twitter handle shared a post that showcased the complete list of 100 sandwiches from various parts of the world. According to the website, vada pav was invented out of necessity. In the late 1980s, a street vendor named Ashok Vaidya came up with the idea of vada pav to feed hungry workers. He found that this dish was an affordable, filling, and tasty way to satisfy their hunger. The dish received a 4.4 rating on the list. While vada pav secured the 13th spot, the Turkish sandwich Tombik took the top position as the best sandwich.

Moreover, the website also released another list after this, which talked about the 50 best street foods of the world, and three Indian dishes made it to this list too. These include tikka at the 23rd position, dosa at the 31st position, and Amritsari kulcha at the 49th position, respectively.
