A few weeks ago Hyderabad’s Ariko Cafe faced accusations of serving "alcohol-infused gelato to children.” The cafe, which is located at Jubilee Hills has recently opened up and addressed the issue, stating that the claims are unfounded and part of a smear campaign aimed at damaging their reputation.

The Excise Department conducted a raid on Ariko Cafe on September 6. They reportedly found whiskey-infused ice cream being sold and arrested several people involved in this alleged operation, as seen in CCTV footage shared on Instagram by Ariko Cafe. As per reports, During the raid, the Excise Department seized 23 pieces, totaling 11.5 kg of whiskey-infused ice cream, and filed a case against the cafe.

In response, Ariko Cafe took to social media to address the issue, stating, "It's important to share with our followers what truly transpired." The cafe explained in their post that a person claiming to be from the US had contacted them, specifically requesting whiskey-flavoured gelato for a private event. "

Ariko Cafe further clarified that they had informed the individual that producing alcoholic gelato would require a special license. However, he convinced the team to prepare a chocolate gelato base as a "special order," leading them to believe that he had secured the necessary license.

The cafe authorities have strongly criticized the involvement of children in the accusations, stating, "It was a narrative crafted to sensationalize the situation. The superintendent even remarked, 'Ice cream meant for children - implying we're selling to kids.' They were promoting a false narrative." Following the raid, the owner has filed complaints with the excise commissioner, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, and the Human Rights Commission, alleging misuse of authority.

"Our business was disrupted, and one of our investors even questioned our integrity. We missed orders through no fault of our own," he explained. Despite filing a formal complaint at the Jubilee Hills police station, he claims no action has been taken so far. "A local officer even suggested we drop the case, saying it was a minor issue," cafe authorities have revealed..
