During the pandemic, many things took a U-turn and re-emerged with a new makeover. That’s exactly what happened with Howrah’s beloved food plaza. Located at the Howrah Railway Station, in Kolkata, the food hub was always buzzing with good food and people throughout the day. But with limited travel and passengers during the Covid-19 pandemic, the food plaza had to temporarily shut down. Now, after 17 months of closure, the place has re-opened. Passengers can now relish delicious food at the refurbished food space.
The Eastern Railways made the official announcement a day ago when they took to their Twitter handle to declare that the food plaza has been renovated and is open for public use. Inaugurated on September 5, the food plaza has had a complete overhaul. An area of 3,122 square feet on the ground floor of the station is dedicated to the food plaza and it looks absolutely stunning.
Located at Howrah station’s old complex, a busy junction in Kolkata, the food plaza is all set to offer high-quality and chemical-free food to its daily commuters. According to reports by several media websites, the plaza is going to have a diverse range of options for passengers, right from Chinese meals to burgers, pizzas and more. Other than this, you’ll also find basic Indian meals on the menu, with thalis consisting of vegetables, rice, and dal.
For snacking and desserts, one can opt for sandwiches, rolls and desserts too. The good quality of food is being sourced in collaboration with Sundarban Cooperative Milk and Livestock Producers’ Union Ltd. They are suppliers of grains like wheat, fresh vegetables as well as dairy products like milk.
In the run up to Durga Puja, the Howrah station is going to get even busier and this fancy food plaza will definitely be a boon. Moreover, the authorities of railways are also in talks about opening a spa inside the station to make it a multi-purpose hub, offering a variety of services to the passengers.
