What do you do when you’ve got leftover food in your kitchen? While some may throw it away, others put it to good use by making interesting dishes with the leftovers. Such is the case with bread crumbs too. For the unversed, bread crumbs are usually toasted pieces of leftover bread that become hard over time. These are often crushed in a grinder to get a fine powder-like texture and are commonly used for coating foods like cutlets and fritters.

Not just snacks, bread crumbs can be useful when it comes to breakfast too. You can make a crusty crumble with broken pieces of toasted bread by adding some vegetables to it or also fry up a breakfast cutlet. Here are a few recipes that you can try at home.

1.  Masala Veggie Bread Crumble

Turn your leftover bread into something spicy and tasty by making this masala bread crumble. The pieces of bread are broken down into smaller cubes and then tossed in a bowl with vegetables. Chopped vegetables like carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes, and onions can be added to it. Some spices like red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, and others are sprinkled over it. This is mixed together and garnished with roasted peanuts and coriander leaves.

2.  Fried Eggs With Bread Crumbs

This is the easiest recipe that you can make for breakfast if you don’t want to miss out on the protein and use the bread crumbs too. Eggs are fried on a pan with the sunny side up. Once cooked, they are topped with olive oil, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and red wine vinegar. The sourdough bread crumbs are crushed even further and sprinkled on top to finish the dish.

3.  Blueberry Breakfast Crumb Cake

Want to have dessert for breakfast? This breakfast cake will become your go-to meal once you try it. Filled with the sweetness of blueberries, the cake has a crumbly texture that is attained by mixing bread crumbs with the cake batter consisting of all-purpose flour, butter, eggs and milk. Whisked together, the bread crumbs lend the cake a crumbly outer layer that is crunchy and works well with juicy blueberries.

4.  Cheese Bread Crumbs

Is there anything that a slice of cheese can solve? We doubt it. To make your bread crumb preparation hassle-free, you don’t need much. Just grate some cheese and toss your bread crumb pieces in a spicy sauce. Add a few veggies if you please and garnish the plate with dollops of grated cheese in the end. Heat this in the microwave for a few seconds so that the cheese melts and your breakfast is ready.

5.  Potato Cutlet With Toasted Bread Crumbs

The chunky and delicious cutlets are not just meant for snacks, they are great for breakfast too. The potatoes are boiled and mashed with spices to make a mixture. This mixture is then patted with hands to make roundels. Once you have done that, you can dip the cutlet in some cornflour and later, toss it in the bread crumbs, so that it sticks to it. After they are fried, serve with tomato ketchup. These turn out to be really crispy because of bread crumbs.
