Ingredients

1. Coffee Beans of your choice (light roast is usually preferred)

2. Shelled, unsalted hazelnuts

Method

1. Grab your chosen whole-bean coffee as your first step. A mild roast is advised because it will enhance the flavour. Additionally, you'll need unsalted hazelnuts because salt can change how your coffee tastes. Additionally, you want to make sure the nuts are whole because most of the taste is found in the shells. You won't detect any skin in your beverage, so don't be concerned. Both your beans and your nuts should be measured out. We suggest going with two parts beans and one part nuts. You may have to play around with the ratio until you get the right flavour for you, however.

2. To grind the beans and hazelnuts together, add them both to your grinder. Remember that when you grind hazelnuts, the oil will come out, thus you might prefer to use a separate spice grinder or food processor rather than your coffee grinder. The end product should ideally be on the coarse side to help bring out the flavour of the nuts in the beans. After using your grinder or processor, make sure to give it a thorough cleaning.

3. The final step is entirely optional. Hazelnut coffee is frequently consumed black, without any other additions. That being said, adding some milk and sweetener can lighten it up. Add one or both to a mug and add coffee.
