A freshly prepared, homemade, flavorful powder that is used to make the well-known and delectable South Indian meal is sambhar. It is made with several different spices and herbs and kept in an airtight jar for extended use. To increase the tangy flavour and add a twist to several recipes, you can use the same masala in various ways. This spice blend is a must-add ingredient in sambhar. It adds an authentic flavour to it. Although sambhar masala is available in the market, nothing beats a homemade traditional sambhar masala. They are healthy and hygienic without adulterations.
Here's how you can make sambhar masala at home:
Ingredient
1. 2 Cups Whole red pepper
2. 1 1/2 cups coriander seeds (dhania)
3. 2 tbsp mustard seeds (sarson)
4. 3 tbsp cumin seeds (jeera)
5. 4 tsp peppercorns (sabut kali mirch)
6. 2 tbsp fenugreek seeds (methi dana)
7. 2 tbsp black gram (dhuli urad dal)(husked and split)
8. 2 tbsp Bengal gram (channa dal)
9. 2 tbsp yellow lentils (arhar dal)
10. 2 tbsp rice2 tbsp asafoetida (hing)
11. 2 tbsp turmeric powder (haldi)
12. 1/4 cup dried curry leaves (kadi patta)
Method
1. All ingredients, excluding the turmeric powder, should be roasted until just barely coloured.
2. Remove from the heat and let them cool down. Now ground the spices into a powder in a blender.
3. Add turmeric powder to it.
4. Keep this spice in an airtight container.
