How would you react when you see a person with a red forehead, green cheeks and a yellow nose? You’ll freak out, won’t you? However, there is one day in the year when you won’t, and that is Holi. The ‘festival of colours’ lets us unwind colourfully and paint ourselves and our loved ones with the most vibrant of shades. From dodging water balloons at each other to gorging on our favourite treats and drinks in between, Holi is all things fun. Needless to say, it is one of the most awaited festivals of India.
This year, Holi will be celebrated on March 18. And as the festival is less than 10 days away, we know you must be busy prepping. And we all know that Holi is incomplete without the assortment of foods and drinks signature to it. Don’t you have to prepare for the same as well? So, to make your job ‘easy, peasy, lemon squeezy’, we have come up with the most typical part of most Indian festivals - sweets, of course! Here are five decadent sweets to amp up your Holi celebrations.
1. Guijiya
Holi without gujiyas is impossible, well almost. The decadent Indian sweetmeat is all things delicious and crispy. Soaked in sugar syrup and topped with saffron and dry fruits, gujiyas are a must on Holi.
2. Malpua
Who can imagine Holi without the soft, velvety and decadent malpuas? Well, I can’t. The syrupy delights are enough to jazz up your Holi menu. Top them with some saffron strands and dry fruits for texture and aroma.
3. Kheer
Everyone’s favourite, the rice pudding or kheer, is quite common to most Indian festivals. And can we celebrate Holi without it? No, we don’t think so.
4. Phirni
Phirni is all things decadent and gooey. The delicious rice pudding is another regular in most Indian festivals and we can’t miss mentioning it in the Holi list. Made with broken rice and milk and topped with crunchy nuts and dry fruits, phirni is a delectable dessert to add to your Holi sweet menu.
5. Rasmalai
Spongy chhena balls dipped in rabri and topped with crunchy nuts - sounds mouth-watering, doesn’t it? And savouring the same while celebrating Holi surely sounds exciting enough. Treat your friends and family to some delicious rasmalai this Holi with the easy recipe below. We are sure they’ll love it.
