Known for its delectable food, sweets, chaats and much more Indian cuisine ranked 5th in TasteAtlas' World's Best Cuisine Awards 2022. Its culture and food history are renowned for its grandeur and majesty. From chutneys to achaar, to its festive foods. There are many delicious foods to eat in India. The regional food, the lost recipes and a wide variety of other street foods just completes the Indian food. With such a passion for food, the Health Ministry has requested States and Union Territories to create 100 food streets in 100 districts across the nation, working in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
According to the Health Ministry, this project aims to promote safe and healthy practices to lower the incidence of food-borne illnesses and enhance general health outcomes. Municipal Corporations, Development Authorities, and District Collectors will be in charge of major initiatives at the state level to make sure that financial resources and physical infrastructure are integrated. To further improve food safety standards, other initiatives have been put in place, including the "Support to Urban Street Vendors (SUSV)" programme under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAYNULM) from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, third-party audits, certification of Eat Right Street Food Hubs, and training for food handlers. Additionally, the States/Union Territories may run training courses for street vendors to teach them about maintaining hygiene standards and managing waste.
According to reports, the National Health Mission will be implemented with the cooperation of the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, as well as the Medical Department. To implement the scheme, letters are being sent to states across the country, including Rajasthan. With the assistance of the vendors association, the important locations of well-known food and drink will first be selected. Training will be provided after the selection. If the parameters are confirmed to be correct during the inspection by the food safety department officials, the Food Street certificate will be provided and must be displayed outside.
Food streets will receive accreditation based on criteria such as a clean environment, knowledgeable and healthy staff, clean restrooms, clean water, and sitting amenities. It is required to periodically assess the standard of the food produced. Gloves and hats are required for employees. No repeated usage of the same oil will be permitted, report about an oil change is to be passed. The date that the food products were placed in the refrigerator must be recorded.
