In every Indian household, roti or chapatti is considered a staple. Soft and round rotis are widely consumed with different curries, sabzis, and dals. This popular Indian bread is made using atta, whole wheat flour, water, and oil. The dough is then made into small balls, flattened using a rolling pin, and cooked on an iron tawa.

Roti can be made by anyone, but for someone new to cooking, roti-making can be overwhelming. In our lifetime, most of us have struggled to make perfectly round, soft, and fluffy rotis. Besides, some even get confused with the quantity and end up kneading much more than they intended. But what do you do when such a situation arises? Throw the excess dough in the bin. If you do so, stop it immediately. We have hacks ready for you that will show you how to save extra dough.

Take a look at some of the tips that will save the extra dough you kneaded by mistake:

  • Add some oil

Always add some oil or ghee while kneading the dough. It will help keep the dough soft for a long time, even if you store it for later use. Oil works as a tenderizer in dough and prevents it from hydrating.

  • Wrap In Aluminium Foil Or Plastic Wrap

Tightly wrapping aluminium foil or plastic wrap helps lock in moisture as much as possible. Make sure the dough is covered on every side. Keep it in a container and store it.

  • Use An Airtight Container

If you don’t have foil or wrap at home, don’t worry. You can opt for a clean and dry, airtight container. The airtight container will help you keep moisture away from the dough and keep it fresh for a longer time. For more protection, you can cover the dough with a clean kitchen cloth before storing it. This will further soak up the extra moisture.

  • Keep In Zip-Lock Bags

You can also opt for zip-lock bags. Storing the dough in a zip-lock bag helps to remove excess moisture and air-zip it. The dough will stay fresh for a long time. If you are short on storage space, these zip-lock bags are the perfect options.

  • Keep It In A Cool, Dry Place

After wrapping it in foil or storing it in a container or zip-lock bag, you need to store it in a cool and dry place. Although it is difficult to find such a place in today’s modern kitchen, you can refrigerate it. Keep the dough safely in the refrigerator and use it fresh whenever you need it.
