A day after Diwali falls Govardhan Puja. In this festival, also known as Annakut or Annakoot, devotees worship Lord Krishna and Govardhan Parvat. They offer 56 varieties i.e., chhapan bhog to the deity and seek blessings. Let us tell you a little more about it. Some legends believe that the word Govardhan is derived from the Govardhan Parvat situated in Gokul. This parvat was single-handedly lifted by Lord Krishna. Devotees all around the country celebrate this festival with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Annakoot

Annakoot ki sabji is a must-have vegetable fry prepared with 56 ingredients in which even salt is counted as an ingredient. Some legends believe that when Krishna lifted the Govardhan Parvat, he asked the villagers to get whatever ingredients they had to prepare a meal which was later called Annakoot.

Makhan Mishri

When we talk about Lord Krishna, we can’t forget mentioning about makhan mishri. This sweet treat is said to be the favourite of Lord Krishna and thus, makes up for a perfect prasad to be offered to the deity on the day.

Panchamrit

Kheer

Kheer is a much-loved dessert in India. This beautiful concoction of rice, sugar, milk, and dry fruits is enough to satisfy our souls. On Govardhan Puja, kheer is cooked in many Hindu households and offered as prasad to Lord Krishna.
