Think of Indian breakfast and poha is one dish that would top the list. And there’s a reason why it is such a popular option. "Gojju" translates to "curry" and "avalakki" means "beaten rice or poha" in Kannada. In Karnataka, popularly there are three types of gojjavalakki recipes. One is Mangalore style gojjavalakki, second is Malnad style gojjavalakki, and the third is Bangalore-Mysore style. All three differes son just a few ingredients, for instance rasam powder is used in the Bangalore-style gojju avalakki.
While the recipe is very similar to puliyogare and beaten rice is used in the place of steam rice, there are many variations to this simple dish when it comes to using the spices. While some people use puliyogare powder in it, some use chilli powder in it instead. Many also add rasam powder or sambar powder to the preparation.
