The epic festivities that take place during the 10-day Onam celebrations in Kerala, had a special visitor in the form of celebrity chef Gary Mehigan. The former Masterchef Australia judge, who has been travelling across the span of the country filming for an OTT platform show that has him be a first-hand witness to the diverse communities celebrating various festivals, where he is also seen enjoying the Holi festival in Vrindavan, among others.

In the latest post shared on social media, Gary is seen standing on the side lines, cheering on, as rowers for the annual snake boat race in Aranmula, Kerala prepare to get on course. At one point, Gary is also seen dressing up in the traditional attire of mundu and neriyathu, after which he takes position in the boat with the other rowers. He also displays curiosity about the workings of the boat and is transfixed by the chants of the boat-rowers who participate each year in the race.

The social media post also shows Mehigan serving up the Kerala matta rice during a sadya feast and is all smiles. Later on, Gary sits down dressed in a purple shirt and mundu to enjoy the sadya himself at the Thrikkakara Vaman temple in Kochi – that includes classic dishes like sambar, rice, payasam, avial, thoran and inji-puli. A newspaper clipping from a regional publication, which he shared shows him engaged in conversation with his neighbouring eater, who also seems to be enjoying his dining companion along with the sadya.
