Indians have a strong connection with milk and when it is winter, there is nothing that can take place of a glass full of garam doodh. There are so many flavours that one can have. From saffron milk to turmeric milk, there are many desi flavours that are a part of our everyday life.

Ginger Milk 

Ginger is a commonly used herb and it is known for its ample health benefits. Right from the main course dish to a simple tea, it can elevate the taste of literally anything. When added to milk, it enhances the taste and aroma of the milk. Moreover, it can battle cold and cough and also aids digestion.  

Ingredients 

  • 2 cups milk 
  • ½ ginger 
  • 1 tsp sugar 

Method 

  • Heat milk in a pan and grate ginger into it. 
  • Let the milk boil for 10 minutes.  
  • When the milk reduces, add sugar. 
  • Serve hot! 

Kesar Milk 

This healthy milk is all you need this winter. Saffron is quite an expensive spice but only a few strands of it can do wonders. It’s one of the easiest recipes to prepare and even looks elegant when you have guests at home. 

Ingredients 

  • 1 to 2 strands of kesar 
  • 2 cups of milk 
  • Sugar to taste 
  • Some almonds, cashew, and pistachios 
  • 1 tsp sugar 

Method 

  • Heat milk in a pan and add saffron strands. 
  • Meanwhile, grind almonds, cashews, and pistachios into a powdered form. 
  • Add the powdered nuts to milk and boil for 5 minutes. 
  • Garnish with saffron strands and serve. 

Anjeer Milk 


Anjeer is one of the nuts with high fiber content. Having anjeer in winter can provide the right nourishment to the body. Also, it can be a perfect substitute for sugar. 

Ingredients 

  • 2 anjeer 
  • 2 cups of milk 

Method 

  • Start by washing anjeer and add it to the boiling milk. 
  • Let it boil and serve hot.

Munakka Milk 

Munakka also known as badi kishmish, could be a boon for those trying to gain weight. Besides, it promotes good heart health and cures dry coughs. 

Ingredients 

  • 3 munnaka 
  • A pinch of black pepper 
  • 1 cup milk 

Method 

  • First, soak munakka in water for an hour and remove the seeds. 
  • Heat milk in a pan and add black pepper to it. 
  • Add the seedless munakka and let it boil for 5 minutes
  • Serve hot!
