2021 saw a revolution in terms of how Indians opened up to spicy offbeat platter from Korea, Japan and so on. There were many trends that the bygone year blessed foodies with. However, with the pandemic still amid us and with all of us stepping into a brand new 2022; here is a list of food trends that didn’t work as much as anticipated last year. These will continue to stay on in 2022 but we aren’t sure if they can sustain.

Plant-Based Meats

While many brands have been into this interesting line of food innovation, Genelia and Ritesh Deshmukh's Beyond Meat, caught my attention on this context. The fact that vegetarians can finally have a tete a tete with how meat feels like eating, is big but somehow the trend did not catch up pan India. It goes on to prove that veggie eaters have no distinct interest in eating non-vegetarian stuff.

It might be able to tap the segment where the health-conscious millennials will have a worthy option to dabble in though, provided the price and availability points are taken care of.

Unagi

This almost has a deja vu angle that FRIENDS addicts will get. The fifth taste element, Unami pastes are already flying off racks given that Waitrose reported more than 17 percent jump in sales in UK for 2021. However, Indians out there didn’t warm up to this taste element and we are not sure if the trend will work its magic in India anytime soon.

Too Much Milk

Veganism is a trend that has seen conversion into a popular practice. The idea that will trend for 2022 is “reduce-terianism.” This practice engulfs more "aware" eating and therefore newer alternatives to traditional dairy are set to be popular this year. Last year though, there were too many milk alternatives that overdid this upcoming trend.

Almond and coconut milks sure have their takers but going to extremes such as oatmeal milk hardly drew attention. Conscious eating to the point of substituting everything traditional didn’t work magic as a trend last year. Let us hope this year sees more change!
