Flying is the most convenient way to reach your destination, not to mention the opportunity to capture the scenic beauty of white clouds, blue sky, shining stars, and the bright sun. One of the key drawbacks of flying in a plane is carrying food or purchasing a simple dish with questionable taste at a surge price.

The best idea is to pack your food and beverages so that you don’t have to do a hard calculation in your head about how much a sandwich and cup of coffee will cost you. However, you must know what you can carry, how you should pack it, and how to divide the perishable items in the luggage.

Know What You Can Carry In A Domestic Flight

There is a list of perishable goods that you can carry in your luggage, especially in the carry-ons. Some items that you can pack with your hand luggage without worries include dry cakes, dry traditional sweets, bread, fruits, and vegetables, baby food (especially powders, milk, and water), cheese, and more.

Don’t Forget About The Check-In Luggage

There are certain things that you cannot pack in your hand luggage but surely can carry to your destination in a check-in bag. This includes spices, dried and grated coconut, pickles, and alcohol bottles in a limited amount. If you are returning from a destination where regional spirits are quite good, you must not pack these in hand luggage, staff at security will throw it away.

Food You Are Not Allowed To Carry

While you know what you can pack in a check-in and hand luggage, you must understand what is prohibited. For the sake of hygiene, most aeroplanes have a guide that prohibits food items in your luggage. White the list is short for check-in baggage, you should be mindful of items that can spill or smell in the hand luggage. This includes frozen meat, ghee or oil, coconut, pickles, wet candies, sweets (like rasgulla), spices, and more.

Don’t Pack In Leaking Containers

Whether you pack the food or beverage in hand luggage or check-in baggage, always use sealed containers and pouches. Even if you are carrying dry and solid food, you would not want it to spill and get embarrassed. You can also use cushioning or bubble wrap while packing alcohol bottles in your luggage.

Declare Amount Of Alcohol At Security

You should declare the amount of alcohol in your baggage at the security counter. Whether you have beer cans, wine bottles, or other varieties of spirits, state the count and type. Depending on each Indian state, there are rules regarding the amount of alcohol you can bring in or carry outside. Most airlines have 5 litres per checked-in bag.

Avoid Packing Sharp Utensils

If you have flown before, you must be aware of the kind of items you cannot carry in your hand baggage, including knives, staplers, or any kind of sharp object. Adhering to the same guideline, you must avoid packing food in sharp utensils as they can be identified as weapons under the scanner and you will have to go through the trouble of explaining yourself. These are also prohibited.

Check Airline Guidelines

The first and foremost check you should run is to skim through the guidelines of the airlines you have booked flights with. While most have the same instructions, a few guidelines differ. This will help you pack your food and beverages in advance and prevent any kind of hassle at the security.
