French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Jaipur last afternoon and took part in a roadshow through the city along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Macron, who is the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi on January 26, made pitstops at Amber Palace, Jantar Mantar observatory and Hawa Mahal, as part of the tour. The two leaders got down near Hawa Mahal to visit some local shops. Besides a handicrafts store, the two tasted some masala chai by local seller Sahu chaiwala, who had set up a temporary stall for the occasion.
The most notable part of the exchange was Macron and Modi using UPI to pay the sellers. The PM took some time to break down the digital UPI payment method to President Macron; last year India and France signed an agreement, enabling retailers in France to use UPI payments as their digital payment system. PM Modi also gifted a replica Ayodhya Ram Mandir to President Macron. The French President also took some time to appreciate Rajasthani craftsmanship and art during his visit to the Amber Fort.

President Macron is expected to make his appearance today at the 75th Republic Day celebrations, which is likely to conclude his two-day trip. “His presence not only strengthens the ties between our nations but also adds a significant chapter to our shared history of friendship and collaboration,” Modi said on X. There have been no other details on whether Macron has been served any other local delicacy during his trip so far. Here are some of the most iconic foods, which should definitely make it to his list!
