Gujarat: Jalebi And Fafda

Jalebi and Fafda are not new to us but did you know it is a Dussehra special in Gujarat? Yes, these two are actually considered auspicious on the day. As per some religious beliefs, Lord Rama loved Shashkuli also known as jalebi. The best companion to jalebi is fafda as it is believed by some that fasts should be ended with something made up of gram flour.

Maharashtra: Kadakani

Kadakani is a Navratri and Dussehra special dish from Maharashtra. These are thin, crispy, mild sweet, and deep-fried puris and are one such recipe that is passed on from one generation to another. Made up of maida, sugar, and suji, these flattened puris should be on your bucket list this Navratri.

Telangana: Malida

This is yet another traditional sweet made in the state on special occasions like Dussehra. Made up of sooji, wheat flour, dry fruits, sugar or jaggery, and ghee, it is one the most delicious desserts that get ready in no time. One can make this dish in the form of ladoos or relish it in dry form.

Punjab: Pindi Chole

Pindi chole doesn’t need a special occasion to be relished but it is often made in many households on Dussehra. This chole had stolen my heart the first time I ate it and why not, it is so delicious and finger-licking. So, you can have the best time with this dish and enjoy it!

West Bengal: Rasgulla

This scrumptious dessert again doesn’t need any special occasion as every single moment is Rasgulla moment. This dessert is a must-have on Dussehra and it is believed that it brings good luck and prosperity. We are not going to ask you to have these heaven balls as we know you were already going to do so!! Isn’t it?

Uttar Pradesh: Paan

Khaike Paan Banaras wala!!!! Paan is a staple to not only Uttar Pradesh but almost every other state and we know it. But especially in UP and Bihar, it is considered auspicious to have a paan on Dussehra. Some legends say that betel leaf was eaten to celebrate the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. Besides, paan is also offered to Lord Hanuman.
