Throwing epic Diwali parties is all fun and games until it comes time to clean up. Once your guests have gone home you’re suddenly confronted by reality and the stack of washing up that needs to be done. And one unfortunate part about Indian food is that even though it’s super yummy, it can also get super messy and if you’ve ever had to clean an oily kadhai, you know the pain.
Fortunately aside from the multitude of cleaning products modern life affords us, there are also some tips and tricks that can help you rid yourself of grease stains and oily splatters in no time. So entertaining with ease and rest assured that clean-up is about to get so much easier with these hacks.
Baking Soda
One of the easiest ways to remove grease from any frying pan is by using a paste of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and washing up liquid. Just mix them up to a thick paste, slather it onto the pan, and leave it to dry for 30 minutes and then scrub the affected areas with steel wool or a toothbrush. This hack works magic for stubborn grease stains.
Vinegar
The most useful of all the kitchen cupboard cleaning products, the acids in vinegar can work wonders on breaking down fats and stains. Pour the vinegar directly into the pan and let it all soak in for an hour. After that use a rough sponge to scrub off any caked-on stains.
Ketchup
Now we know that this might sound like you’re making your pans dirtier but covering them in ketchup, but believe us, this actually works wonders. The acidity of the tomatoes in the sauce plus all the chemical additives tend to work their way under tough stains and if left overnight can make it easy to scrub them clean the next morning.
Salt And Vinegar
Not just a popular British flavour of British crisps, salt and vinegar can be a deadly force against grease and staining. The first step is to soak the pan in vinegar for about an hour and then liberally pour salt on the pan. With a bit of dish soap, you can use the salt’s natural exfoliant properties to ensure every pan is looking top-notch.
