Diwali is the celebration of Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya with Goddess Sita and Lord Laxmana. It also commemorates Lord Vishnu marrying his consort Goddess Lakshmi. While different communities believe in different reasons behind celebrating the festival, one thing that stands out is food.

Every Hindu community is known to prepare a wide range of dishes to observe the festival with great pomp and show. Among these delicacies, snacks stand out but they can’t be served without lip-smacking chutneys or dips on the side. If you have Usha’s food processor at home, the following condiments will be perfect for the festive spread.

Tomato Chutney

If you are planning to make vada, appam, uttapam, and other South Indian snacks, tomato and coconut chutney should be a part of the spread. Earthy tones of coconut and the tangy taste of tomatoes make it a sumptuous accompaniment to go with deep-fried dishes. While grinding the ingredients in the food processor, add mustard seeds, asafoetida, ginger, and red chillies. Tamper it with mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, and curry leaves. Serve this chutney with a squeeze of lemon juice to add an oomph.

Hummus With Spices

If you search for an authentic recipe for hummus, it seems quite bland with robust flavours of garlic standing out. However, this variant includes making the dip using Indian spices to add tadka for your taste buds. Add some cumin powder, sprinkle paprika powder, and drop some chaat masala to make the notes more interesting. It will easily stay in your refrigerator for at least five days.

Peanut Chutney

If you are offering deep-fried or shallow-fried snacks to guests, nothing will pair better than peanut chutney. It is rich in nutrients and offers a treat for taste buds. The robust taste and texture make it a hit with cutlets, veg kebabs, and tikkis. Don’t forget to add green chillies, grated coconut, and tamarind pulp along with roasted peanuts in the food processor.

Spinach Dip

While your snacks might be deep-fried, the dips can be delicious and healthy. This spinach and artichoke spread recipe is ideal to pair with spicy snacks. Combine the star ingredients in the food processor with parmesan and mozzarella cheese, black pepper, garlic, red chilli flakes, cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. This dip will tone down the heat and allow guests to enjoy the snacks more.

Green Mint Chutney

There is no snacking without green mint chutney. From mathri to cutlets, it is the evergreen partner of Indian snacks. Along with combining the leaves of coriander and mint, add lemon juice for zest, green chilli for heat, ginger for robust flavour, and yoghurt to improve texture and amplify creaminess. The best thing about this is it can stay in your refrigerator for a week.

Paneer Tikka Dip

Instead of making paneer tikka for the appetiser section, make a delicious dip to leave your guests guessing the ingredients. Chaat masala, paneer, mayonnaise, garam masala, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, lemon juice, green chillies, and coriander leaves go into the food processor and give you a lip-smacking spread.

Tamarind Chutney

For street food items like dahi bhalla and gol gappe, tangy and sweet tamarind chutney is a must-have in your refrigerator. Apart from tamarind pulp, black salt, ginger powder, brown sugar, red chilli powder, and cumin powder also go inside it. Cook these ingredients on a low flame after grinding in a processor. Store in an air-tight jar for 10 days.
