Finally, the most awaited festival Diwali is here, and we are all very excited to celebrate it in a grand way. Also known as the ‘festival of lights’ this occasion signifies the victory of light over darkness. According to the Hindu calendar, Diwali is celebrated in the month of Kartik on the 15th day and this year it falls on November 12. 

On this day we light diyas, make rangolis, worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh and indulge into various yummy festive delicacies. Motichoor laddoos, kheer, kheel batashe, malpua, kachori, coconut barfi and kaju katli are some of dishes that are relished on Diwali. For starters 

Gobi Tikka 

Gobi tikka or tandoori gobi is a scrumptious appetiser that is perfect for every festive occasion. Made by marinating cauliflower florets in curd and spices like carom seeds, garam masala, red chilli powder, coriander powder and dried fenugreek leaves, it is grilled or baked till perfection. You can serve gobi tikka with mint chutney, lemon wedges and onion slices. 

Papad Cone Chaat

If you are bored of your regular chaat recipes, then do try papad cone chaat. Prepared within a very few minutes, they look super cute and are very delicious. It is made with papad, namkeen, onion, tomato and spices like chaat masala and black salt. You can also add your favourite veggies into the chaat to make it more colourful. 

Main course 

Dhokar Dalna 

This is a classic Bengali delight that is delicious along with being protein rich. Dhokar dalna is made with soaked chana dal and spices like cumin seeds, bay leaf, red chilli, asafoetida and ginger. It is best served with steamed rice and can become a part of lunch as well as dinner. People also relish it as a snack with a hot cup of tea. 

Garlic Naan

Naan is one our favourite go-to breads for every celebratory occasion. Served with any savoury or spicy side dish, it is soft, buttery and very delicious in taste. Garlic naan is made with very basic ingredients like flour, yeast, water (or milk) and sugar along with some grated garlic and butter.  

Tehri

This is a flavourful rice dish that makes for a perfect winter dinner. Originating from Awadhi cuisine, it is not as popular as pulao or biryani but holds a special place in the heart of vegetarians. Being very popular in North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, it is made with plenty of seasonal vegetables like carrots, cauliflower, peas and potatoes.   

Desserts 

Badam Kheer 


Badam kheer is a delicious, creamy and rich dessert that is perfect to relish after a wholesome dinner with family. Made in less than half an hour, it tastes divine and is great to prepare for festivals like Diwali. This Indian pudding is made with almonds, milk and sugar along with the flavouring of cardamom and saffron.  

Gulab Jamun Truffles

Gulab jamun is an iconic Indian mithai that is loved all over the country and even across the borders. So, this time let’s give a twist to this sweet by making a fusion dessert called gulab jamun truffles. Made with chopped dark chocolate, gulab jamun, almonds and pistachios, it is perfect to impress your guests on Diwali.
