The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced that two new food courts will soon be operational in Delhi’s Dwarka area in a bid to create more recreational spaces for the general public. The two food courts in question, Amrit Dhara near Dwarka Sector 9 metro station and Amrit Ras near Dwarka Sector 13 metro station, are expected to open to the public soon.

These new food courts by the DDA are spread over a vast area of 694 square metres and 414 square metres respectively, and are expected to have a setup for 20 to 30 food joints and eateries. The space in the middle of these food courts are expected to have plenty of open areas for seating and relaxing. The DDA has invited tenders through its online portal to invite vendors for the e-auction of spaces within these food courts on the basis of license fees. The registration for this e-auction will be open till October 20, while the bidding will start on October 31.

“We will provide space on ‘as is where is’ basis,” the statement by the DDA said. “These can either be operated by the licensee himself or through service providers engaged by him. But DDA will enter into agreement with the licensee only, after it fulfills norms and adopts all safety measures.” The food courts are expected to have multi-cuisine options based out of independent or common kitchens.

“The food plazas will have a common sitting and standing area with provision for appropriate furnishings, trash cans, etc but the licensee will need to maintain the common area. It will also need to create requisite infrastructure and arrange for equipment at its own cost,” the statement added. The e-auctioned licenses will at first be given for a period of five years, after which the licensee can apply for it to be extended to another 15 years.

As mentioned before, these food courts are a part of the DDA’s project to revitalise the Dwarka Trunk Drains and create ample recreational facilities for the general public. Apart from the food courts, the DDA is also going to develop unhindered cycle tracks, walkway corridors along with elevated tracks near crossings for cyclists. Plans for a nature trail, open-air theatre, solar arcades and ecological zones are also in the works.
