After the release of the blockbuster film, Dangal, the two main actresses of the movie, Fatima Sheikh and Sanya Malhotra were looked at some of the most promising actresses of Bollywood. Both went on to do a plethora of great work after that. In fact, Fatima Sheikh recently featured in an OTT series too based on short stories. The actress is not just a pretty face but full of talent. While she is all about fitness and fun, she loves to eat too. While she’s not much of a foodie in the typical sense, she loves her ghar ka khana as expressed in interviews. Some time back, the actress received some delicious homemade food from Anil Kapoor while she was quarantined at home for testing positive.
While the Raatrani actress prefers home-cooked meals, she’s always up for some variety in food too. She also confessed once that she loves Mumbai’s popular street food, dahi puri. A Delhi-born girl, Fatima Sheikh has been seen in plenty of films like Thugs of Hindustan and is also featuring in an upcoming film called Dhak Dhak with Dia Mirza and a few other actors. While we can’t wait to find out about her latest project, we saw that she is in Manali right now. Enjoying the chilly weather and pretty views, she showed us her mug and said that her Blue Tokai survived the travel. Next up, we saw her posting a picture of a packet of Uncle Chips on her Instagram story.
A half-eaten green packet of chips is what she calls her “comfort food” and we aren’t surprised. Since the actress isn’t much of a fancy foodie, we can relate to how she finds comfort and happiness in a packet of chips. Don’t know what we’re talking about? Here, take a look.
With so much talk of comfort food, we are reminded of some popular Indian comfort foods that you can try today.
1. Rajma Chawal
A comfort food of many and a favourite of even more, rajma chawal is something that brings a smile on most faces. The red kidney beans cooked in a tangy onion and tomato gravy are served with steamed rice and some onions. This is a wholesome dish that is usually enjoyed for lunch in several parts of North India like Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh etc.
2. Khichdi
Another rice-based dish that is comforting and cozy is khichdi. Khichdi has so many varieties in India that you will be spoilt for choice. The lentil and rice combination are cooked together in a single pot so that the flavours blend together really well.
3. Idli Sambhar
A warm and soft idli dunked in a bowl of hot and spicy sambhar is a comfort food from the South. The rice-cakes are steamed and dipped in the tangy lentil soup which is spruced up with the use of tamarind or imli for the sourness.
