Here’s how to prepare this Onion Rava Dosa at home!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup unroasted Rava (sooji or semolina)
  • ½ cup Rice Flour
  • 2 tsp all-purpose Flour
  • 1 Green Chili, finely chopped
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • ½ inch Ginger, finely chopped
  • Water or Buttermilk as required
  • 9 to 10 Black Peppercorns, crushed
  • 1 tsp chopped Coriander Leaves (cilantro leaves)
  • Salt as per taste

 For Tempering

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 5 to 6 Curry Leaves – chopped
  • Oil or Ghee as required for roasting the dosa

 Method:

  • In the first step, let’s make the batter for the Dosa. Take a bowl and then add Rava, rice flour, all-purpose flour, green chillies, ginger, onion, coriander leaves and crushed black pepper to it
  • Now, heat some oil in a frying pan. Put mustard seeds and cook them on a low flame until crackle. Once done, include the cumin seeds in the pan
  • After some time it includes chopped curry leaves. Saute all the ingredients for a few seconds until the cumin browns
  • Next, include this tempering mixture as well as some oil in the other ingredients in the bowl. Add salt as per your taste
  • Put water or buttermilk in the bowl and make a thin batter without any lumps. Once prepared, keep this batter aside for approximately 15 to 20 minutes
  • The batter should not be very thick or of medium consistency. If the batter gets too thin, then add some rice flour to improve the consistency
  • Now, let’s make onion Rava dosa. Heat a non-stick pan and smear it with some oil on a medium flame
  • Next, pour the dosa batter on the pan using a ladle from the edges towards the centre
  • Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of oil from the top of the dosa and add some chopped onion
  • Cook the dosa until it gets golden and crisp. Next, flip and cook them from the other side. Once both the sides are cooked, remove the dosa from the pan and switch off the flame
  • Prepare all the dosas this way until all the batter is used
  • While cooking the second dosa stir the batter in a better way as the rava and the flours might settle down at the bottom of this batter
  • Finally, serve the hotel-style Onion Rava Dosa hot along with coconut chutney or sambar

  • Adjust the salt and spices as per your taste
  • You can skip adding ginger and black pepper as per your taste
  • You can also put finely chopped fresh coconut into the dosa batter
