Many of us can relate to the fact that we rarely consider the type of coffee in our cups or glasses. We'd go to a cafe and request an iced cappuccino without realising whether the baristas were making our iced cappuccino using cold brew or iced coffee.

Although cold brew and iced coffee may sound similar, they are very different in many ways.

 What is a Cold Brew?

Cold brew was not as popular tfor many years as it is now in cafes. However, not everyone is familiar with the term "cold brew." We all know that coffee is usually brewed with hot water, but cold brew is a coffee that is brewed for 12 to 24 hours using cold water. This results in a coffee that is robust and dark, but with little acidity when compared to hot brews. The period ranges from 12 to 24 hours, depending on how strong you want your coffee to be. Cold brews last for 7-10 days in the refrigerator and are simple to preserve.

What is Iced Coffee?

This is your standard cup of coffee, brewed in hot water but served chilled with ice. This is made by steeping coffee grinds in hot water for 5-6 minutes to allow the flavour to develop. This hot water can then be used to prepare a variety of coffee drinks. It uses one of the most common brewing methods.

What’s the difference between these two?

 •    Cold brew takes at least 12-24 hours to prepare, whereas iced coffee brew takes only minutes.

Iced coffee is brewed in hot water and then poured over ice cubes, whereas cold brew requires cold or room temperature water.

Because cold brew coffee is less acidic and has a smoother flavour, it is more expensive than iced coffee, which is more acidic, harsh, and less expensive.

Cold brew coffee is more caffeinated but lasts for two weeks, whereas iced coffee is less caffeinated but only lasts one day.

While both of these coffees are delicious, it all depends on the individual. Cold brew is best for those who like their coffee strong but not too acidic, while iced coffee is best for those who prefer their coffee mild.

Despite their numerous distinctions, both of these coffees are incredibly tasty and rich. It simply depends on the individual's tastes.  Hot and cold coffees can be made with both cold brew and iced coffee and that's the best part.
