Herbs play a very important role in cooking. From topping off your mojitos with refreshing mint leaves or garnishing the salads with some tender coriander leaves, these herbs can infuse a whole lot of freshness into your food and drinks. But that is only until the herbs are fresh and tender, which itself is quite a task. Leaving these herbs out in the open can make the leaves hang, on the other hand keeping them in the refrigerator does not help much. However, celebrity chef Vikas Khanna has come up with an excellent hack for keeping the herbs fresh for long. Sharing an Instagram video, the Michelin-star chef showed exactly how we can keep the herbs fresh for long. Take a look:
In the video, Vikas Khanna can be seen collecting the coriander herbs, dipping them in a glass of water. He then goes on and covers the leaves properly with a plastic bag, before placing them in the refrigerator. 'Warning- These 27 seconds might save you a lot of flavours, freshness and a little $,' he wrote in the caption. He also suggested changing the water every 48 hours to retain the freshness of the herbs, in the caption.
According to Vikas Khanna, this is 'the best trick to keep the herbs fresh in the refrigerator for up to 8-10 days.' 'Thank me later,' the chef added.
Isn’t that simple and absolutely genius? Several users thanked the chef in the comments section. While some even suggested more ways to keep the herb fresh. For instance, a user wrote ‘you can also keep it in an airtight container and put it in refrigerator for up to 10 days. The freshness will remain throughout these days...worth a try.’
