Chef Kunal Kapur, also known as ‘Master Chef’ Kunal Kapur among his fans is arguably one of the most famous culinary icons of India today. The Delhi-born celebrity chef and restaurateur has featured in several cooking and cooking reality shows on Television, making him a household name. The chef is also pretty active on social media, sharing new recipes, tips, tricks, and trivia with his fans. The chef also seems to be well aware of trending songs and reels. Recently, he decided to use the viral ‘Kacha Badam’ song for one of his reels. No, the chef wasn’t seen doing the hook step of the catchy song, but he did share his recipe of ‘Badaam milk’ with the song playing in the background.  

For the uninitiated, the ‘Kacha Badam’ song, originally by Bhubhan Badaykar, a humble Bengal-based ‘Badam’ seller went viral on social media, making the vendor an overnight sensation. The song that goes like “Badam badam a dada kacha badam, amar kache naiko bubu vaja badam” was remixed as a peppy track, which was used to make countless reels. From air hostesses to Indian TV stars, everyone was seen grooving to the number.

“At home, you can make delicious Badam Milk! If you still haven't tried this recipe, then you are missing out on a lot of goodness, nutrients, and energy,” chef Kunal wrote in the caption of his viral reel that has clocked more than 1.9 millions views within three days of going live.  

With Holi around the corner, the recipe has come around at the right time. Badam milk, bhaang, kesar doodh, thandai are traditional Indian beverages you associate with Indian spring festivals like Holi. In the caption, the chef also gave us detailed, step-by-step recipe,  

Ingredients

  •  Almonds – 1cup
  • Water – 3cups
  • Sugar/Gur – 2tbsp
  • Turmeric – a pinch
  • Nutmeg (Jaiphal) – a pinch
  • Saffron – a pinch (dissolved in 2tbsp water)
  • Cardamom powder – ½ tsp
  • Rose water – ½ tbsp
  • Kewra water – ½ tbsp
  • Subza or Chia Seeds (soaked) – 1tbsp

 Steps:

1. Soak badam overnight. Now boil them for 15mins. Strain and let them cool. Remove the skin and place the peeled almonds in a blender. Add 4 cups water and blend it. Now strain it using a muslin cloth. Almond milk is ready.

 2. Heat this milk and add the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil and remove it.

 

You can serve it hot or chilled as per the weather.
