Chef Harsh Kedia is known as The Diabetic Chef in India and beyond. He was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 14 and since then has been on a journey to innovate new rules for what a diabetic diet would look like. After extensive research and collaboration with many doctors, he’s been able to completely renovate what it looks like to eat ‘healthy’, to a point where it’s about nutrition rather than deprivation.

He’s also been very open about his own struggles with weight loss and the challenges he faced in his teenage years trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. At the age of 22, he is vocal and open about the steps that he’s taken to manage his condition while also improving his quality of life through food. For him, cutting out 5 specific food items really helped him shed the pounds and now he’s taken to social media to share those secrets with the world.

Below we’ll take a look at the items he recommends cutting back on and why it could work for you too.

  1. White Rice
  2. Roti
  3. Bread
  4. Fried Foods
  5. Potatoes

All these items are high in carbohydrates and in the case of fried foods, saturated fats. The most crucial part of successful weight loss is maintaining a calorie deficit, which just means that you have to be burning more calories than you’re consuming in order to successfully lose weight. By cutting back on carb-high food, you decrease your calorie intake naturally.

The chef does add some disclaimers to these tips, however, saying that although this worked for him, every individual has their own requirements so it’s worth checking with a nutritionist before committing to any drastic diet changes. Also, he admits that his diet changes were done in tandem with an exercise regime to ensure that you’re losing weight in a healthy and sustainable way.

If you’re struggling with losing weight or you just want to improve the quality of your diet. The Diabetic Chef’s top tips might be the solution for you.
