Chef Gary Mehigan needs no introduction and his love for Indian food is no secret. The Melbourne-based chef is obsessed with Indian food and his Instagram is a proof. We often see him sharing his indulges in Indian food and appreciating the beauties. And why not!
Chef Gary is best known for being a judge on MasterChef Australia for 12 long years. In one of the interviews, he disclosed his first visit to India was in the year 2012 when he was invited to be a part of the Oz Fest in Delhi. He instantly fell in love with the culture and of course the food. He has been to different cities like Jaipur, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and others and enjoyed the food at his best.
When asked about India's street food in one of his interviews, Chef Gary said he loves Kathi rolls, chole Bhature, raj kachori, or even a simple chai. Besides, the Chef has always been vocal about his utmost love for South Indian food, which is his all-time favourite. This might be the reason why he visited India after three long years and savoured the Onam Sadya feast in Kerala. He had shared a post on Instagram and wrote “So thrilled to experience Onam this year in Kerala. The feeling of generosity, good will, and excitement has been quite overwhelming..! After Sadhya or feast today, there is still more to celebrate and enjoy”. Yes, guys, Chef Gary is just like us! Wanna know more about his Kerala visit, click here.
Once again, he has showered his love for South Indian food by sharing a picture of ‘medu vada’ on his Instagram handle. The chef wrote ‘There are many things I love about South Indian cuisine but ‘Medu Vada’ for breakfast are at the top of my list. For those not in India, they are soft fritters made from urad dal (de husked black gram/mung bean) They are crispy on the outside and tender and light on the inside. Dipped in sambar, red chutney, or coconut chutney they are next level delicious’. Chef Saransh Goila also commented ‘Texture magic’.
