Sipping on a cup of chai or tea right after waking up in the morning is quite a common habit in most Indian households. It's commonly believed that a cup of hot chai or coffee can provide the necessary motivation to face a long day ahead. And of course, where there is chai, it's often accompanied by a biscuit or two. It is considered a classic pairing that is loved by people of all ages. Despite its simplicity and comfort, experts warn against consuming this combo on an empty stomach. Don't you believe us? Read on.

While you may feel that your daily dose of chai and biscuits is a kickstart for you, its components can actually damage your health in the long run. Manpreet Kalra, a dietitian, recently revealed in an Instagram video that tea and cookies are the "worst meal to start the day," despite the popular belief that they can nourish and energize you for the day ahead.

According to Manpreet, this food combination can lead to insulin resistance, belly fat, acidity, and other gut health issues if consumed on an empty stomach. She explains that if you drink tea on an empty stomach, you risk disrupting your digestive system, and excessive consumption of it may lead to constipation. It is also believed to negatively affect the absorption of nutrients such as iron. She further explains that when biscuits are combined with tea, the impact of the hot beverage is worsened because of the sugar content of the biscuits.

Biscuits are usually made of wheat flour and saturated fats, along with refined sugar. All of these elements tend to further contribute to acidity issues. The dietitian suggests drinking something alkaline after waking up that will restore balance to the stomach.

Thinking about what it could be? Here are some options suggested by Manpreet:

1. Saunf Water

Saunf water is recommended by Manpreet for digestive issues because it reduces gut inflammation and relieves GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).

2. Coriander Seeds Water

For anyone who feels bloated often, coriander seeds in water are a great choice to start the day with. "It stimulates digestive enzymes and prevents flatulence," says the dietitian.

3. Aloe Vera Juice

As the best solution to constipation, aloe vera juice can provide a laxative effect on your stomach. It improves gut mobility.

4. Coconut Water With Cinnamon

Drinking coconut water with cinnamon can help fight early-morning sugar cravings since it regulates blood sugar levels and improves leptin sensitivity.

5. Coconut Water With Halim Seeds

It is rich in iron. This drink can help reduce hair fall while promoting hair growth and preventing breakage by stimulating hair follicles on the scalp.
