Step outside of the comfort of your home, you will come to notice that the temperature is gradually dropping and it’s awfully getting chillier day by day. There's no better way than to simply cherish this season by relaxing our souls with a soothing cup of hot beverage. Caribou is a sweet cocktail that is composed of red wine, whiskey, maple syrup and sugar. It is a French-Canadian drink you can relish during this wintertime. Caribou is greatly relished during both summer and winter seasons. It can be served either cold or hot depending on the weather outside. In winters, the drink is infused with citrus and cinnamon in a manner similar to how a glass of mulled wine is blended. Sometimes even nutmeg and cloves are used to pack this drink with additional flavours. Now, who created this drink and how it came into being remains uncertain till date. However, we know that the drink was either developed in France or Canada. Since the time of its popularity, it has been traditionally served at the Quebec Winter Carnival for years. It is either carried around by carnival goers in hollow plastic walking canes or sold at outdoor bars at the event. The most intriguing thing about this drink is that it is believed to have derived its name from another drink that consisted of a mixture of caribou blood and whisky. That drink was consumed by hunters and loggers during the colonial time to stave off the cold while they were busy working. We can say that the creators of this cocktail used red wine to give the drink the same bloody and deadly look, similar to what appeared from using caribou blood. Interested in trying this drink?
