Ingredients

  • 500 gms beef
  • 250 gms potatoes
  • 350 gms basmati rice
  • 100 gms onions
  • 6-8 green chillies
  • 8 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch ginger 
  • 300 ml coconut milk
  • 6-8 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp black peppercorns
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 6-8 cardamom pods
  • ½ tsp cinnamon powder
  • Salt
  • Oil

Method 

  • Wash and clean the beef and cut into into even cubes. 
  • Grind the pepper, fennel, cumin, coriander, garlic, cloves and ginger together with some water.
  • Add the turmeric and salt and massage them into the beef chunks. Let it marinate for an hour.
  • Chop up the onions, potatoes and green chillies.
  • Heat some oil and add the cardamom and cinnamon and saute for 20 seconds. 
  • Add the onions, curry leaves and chillies and fry till the onions start to brown.
  • Add the marinated beef and fry till the outside is cooked, around 8 minutes, and then add the potatoes and the coconut milk. Cook covered for about 15 minutes. 
  • Rinse the rice and boil until almost cooked, add the partially cooked rice on top of the beef and cook covered for 8 minutes. 
  • Mix thoroughly, and serve hot.
