What Are Cold Soups?

Cold soups are perfect for hot summer days when you want something refreshing. Cold soups can be made with fruits, vegetables, dairy, or grains. Cold soups have lots of water, which helps the body stay hydrated. Your body loses water when you sweat on hot days. The water in soup replaces the water your body loses.

Origin Of Cold Soup

How did cold soup come to be? The classic cold soup, gazpacho, came from southern Spain and Portugal. People there started making gazpacho to beat the heat during hot summers. The chilled, raw veggies blended into the soup made for a refreshing break from stewed meats and warm soups. Gazpacho has tomatoes as the main ingredient, fruit soups made with berries or melons, vichyssoise made with potatoes and leeks, and yoghurt-based soups with cucumbers and herbs. The ingredients are usually blended and chilled before serving.
