The Bananacue makes for a great snack to relish along with turon which is a deep fried wrapped banana roll, filled with sweet jack fruit. Other snacks that go well with bananacue include kamotecue (deep-fried skewered sweet potatoes with brown sugar), pilipit (deep fried twisted donut) and bicho-bicho (another type of deep fried twisted donut). The banana cue can be relished as a snack or dessert. For those of you who want to try your hand at this delicious street food, but don’t have access to Philippines’ Saba banana, Plantains, Burro bananas, or Thai Bananas can be used in their place. Also, the  bamboo skewers are unnecessary, so if you don’t have any, you can eat the banana cue with your hands or utensils.

Here’s a recipe of banana cue that you can try out, and relish as a mid-afternoon summer snack:

Ingredients:

* Bananas - 6 pieces

* Brown sugar - 2 cups

* Cooking oil - 4 cups

Method:

* Heat a cooking pot then pour-in cooking oil.

* When the oil becomes hot, deep fry the bananas for 2 minutes.

* Gradually put-in the brown sugar, adjust the heat to medium-low and continue cooking until the melted brown sugar coats the bananas.

*Gently stir the bananas so that they can get coated with melted brown sugar easily.

* Remove the cooked bananas one by one and immediately skewer using a bamboo skewer. Using two pieces of bananas per skewer is recommended.

* Let cool then serve along side a glass of cold soda.
