The ancient Indian medicinal system, Ayurveda, has been a traditional and effective way to lead a healthier and sound life. Due to its growing popularity, Ayurveda Aahara, a separate entity for food, will be launched.
As per the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the guidelines and licenses for Ayurveda Aahara will be released. The reports also suggest that the food products that will come under the category of Ayurveda Aahara will not contain any drugs or medicinal ingredients; they would simply be for enhancing health and wellness. What is Ayurveda Aahara?
Ayurvedic Aahara is a special category of food products that will be formulated according to traditional Ayurvedic principles. As per reports, Ayurvedic Aahara is said to include five categories based on around 800 Ayurvedic recipes. The recent reports also state that FSSAI and the AYUSH ministry have drafted the licensing and logistics norms for the businesses, startups, and organisations that produce and supply Ayurvedic food products, and the same guidelines will be released shortly.
The Purpose Of The New Regulations
Recent reports suggest that there is a global demand for Ayurvedic food products. The generation today is aware of the concepts of eating healthy, the benefits of Ayurveda, and the healthy results of consuming food made with traditional Indian recipes. Since the recipes and ways of preparation are so vast and spread all across the country, the spokesperson of the Ayush Ministry is reported to have focused on the need for a branding vehicle.
He is reported to have elaborated further that while people are aware of the benefits of Ayurveda, it is somehow still restricted to pharmaceutical purposes. The concepts like “Pathya” which focuses on the importance of having a scheduled lifestyle, healthy eating habits, and the value of home-cooked food, and “Apathya”, which talks about the hazards of improper diet schedule, sleep-wake cycle, inadequate physical movement, are yet to be known to common people.
Thus, the only way to spread the word is to do it commercially. As per reports, one such branding vehicle that FSSAI came on board with is Ayurveda Aahara. To streamline all the practising businesses based on Ayurvedic recipes, the guidelines will make them stick to the recipes and instructions discussed in scheduled A. Hence, any food organisation can get an approved license from FSSAI to produce food items as mentioned in the recipes from Schedule A and then proceed to sell.
