This Aloo stuffed Mirchi Pakora or Bajji has spicy and savoury flavours. The besan batter in which it is fried is made by adding all the home-made spices which give the bajjis a delicious crunchy outer layer. The stuffing filled in the green chillies is made of aloo fried in mustard seeds along with salt and basic spices. The inner stuffing is full of flavours making it a wholesome snack to be paired up with tea.

The spiced fritter known as pakora, is a native of the Indian subcontinent. In South Asia and the UK, street vendors sell them and serve them in dining establishments. It consists of objects, frequently vegetables like potatoes and onions, that are deep-fried after being covered with seasoned gram flour batter.

Ingredients:

For besan batter:

1 cup Besan / chickpea flour / gram flour

¼ cup Rice Flour / chawal ka atta

1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder / lal mirch powder

½ tsp Turmeric powder / haldi

pinch of Asafoetida / hing

Salt to taste

¼ cup Water (or as required to prepare batter)

pinch of Baking soda / sodium bicarbonate

For stuffing:

2 Potatoes (boiled and peeled)

1 Green chilli / hari mirch (finely chopped)

1 inch Ginger (grated)

2 tbsp Coriander leaves (finely chopped)

½ medium sized Onion (finely chopped)

¼ tsp Turmeric powder / haldi

Salt to taste

½ tsp kashmiri red chilli powder / lal mirch powder

½ tsp Jeera / cumin seeds

pinch of Hing / asafoetida

½ tsp Amchur powder / dry mango powder

Other ingredients:

4 large Chilli / green bullhorn chillies / bhavnagri mirchi / bajji menasu

Oil for deep frying

Method:

Besan batter recipe:

Firstly, take besan, rice flour, chilli powder, haldi, hing and salt. mix well. Furthermore, add water and make a smooth batter. Also add a pinch of baking soda and mix gently

Stuffing recipe:

Firstly, take mashed potatoes, green chilli, ginger, coriander leaves and onion.Also add haldi, red chilli powder, jeera, amchur, salt and hing.Mix well.

Mirchi stuffing recipe:

Firstly, slit green chilli at the centre and remove seeds.Also stuff the potato stuffing into the chilli. Dip the stuffed chilli into besan batter, coat and deep fry to golden brown.Finally, serve stuffed potato mirchi bajji / mirapakaya bajji. These aloo stuffed mirchi bajjis are popular all over India. Both the North Indians and South Indians love this dish. Not only during tea-time but they could be served as a side dish with a bowl of dal and rice too.
