Canapés are a tiny slice of bread or toast served with a savoury topping that many people are familiar with. It is commonly offered as a snack during parties. These are bite-sized and, in addition to being incredibly easy to eat, they taste fantastic as well.

According to experts, this snack or dish was created in the 1800s in France by a chef who wanted to try something new for his clientele. As a result, he piled savoury foods on top of bread or toast and offered them to the guests. It was an instant hit, and many people now prefer it to be served at their events. Imagine walking into a party and seeing these scrumptious treats decorated on a tray, I'm sure you won't be able to resist their charm.

Have you ever wondered why Canapé is the name given to this snack?

There's a fascinating reason for this. In French, a canape refers to a sofa. It indicates that the savoury toppings or savouries are placed on the toast of bread in the same way as people sit on a sofa. It's certainly an intriguing reason to name a snack after this.
