As a way to keep up the festive spirit of its passengers even in transit, airline companies in India are taking on the initiative to serve festive-special meals on account of Durga Puja and Dusshera. For passengers flying out of Kolkata between October 20-22, Air India has decided to offer meal options that include quintessential foods associated with Bengali culture – mutton kosha, chicken rolls, crispy fish kabiraji cutlets and koraishutir kochuri (green pea kachoris). Guests also get a chance to savour preparations like narkel diye cholar dal (a lentil preparation cooked with coconut) and macher kalia (fish cooked in an onion-based gravy) on select flights.

To take the service up a notch, the airline will also have a few Bengali sweets for passengers to choose from, in the event of some mid-air indulgence. Similarly, Akasa Air’s on-board dining service – Café Akasa – has curated a festive special feast in honour of Dusshera. All the passengers flying on the special day can avail a meal of matar masala puri and kala chana ghugni, and pair it with a beverage of choice. Diners on-board can also enjoy a portion of raj bhog – a sweet dish similar to a rosogulla, flavoured with saffron.
