Rice seems to feature in most Indian cuisines, whether as a rice dish or by using rice flour. One-pot recipes are quick and easy solutions during meals too. Putting in all the ingredients together and cooking it in one go, seems easy right? Not when it is biryani. The one-pot rice dish is much more than a pulao. For those untouched by the phenomenon, biryani comes from the Persian word birian which refers to fried before cooking. The dish is prepared by layering boiled rice along with vegetables, marinated meat and spices. This is usually referred to as dum ki biryani, where the rice and meat are slow-cooked and sealed with a layer of atta.

After Kareena Kapoor was seen devouring a plateful of biryani last week, it is Kajol’s turn now. Recently, the actress was seen at the Hello Awards, posing with her best friend and film director, Karan Johar. The actress has done fabulous work opposite Shahrukh Khan in films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and the eternal love story, DDLJ. Although we don’t know much about Kajol’s foodie side, her recent Instagram stories tell us something different. The Indian actress made us drool by panning over a handi of biryani and it looks amazing.

While we’re still guessing if Kajol made it herself, the saffron strands on top along with caramelized onions placed on a bed of aromatic long-grained rice gives us major goals. Wondering whether it is chicken or mutton biryani? Maybe we’ll never know.

What we do know is that you can make these biryani recipes at home and enjoy yourself too.

1.  Mutton Biryani

If you’re a fan of the flavourful mutton, then this biryani recipe should be on your list. The tender morsels of mutton are marinated in curd, ginger-garlic, cardamom, bay sticks and other whole spices. This is mixed with the rice and cooked till the aroma fills the kitchen.

2.  Prawn Biryani

The chunky and soft prawn pieces when mixed with the biryani masala, give such a delicious flavour that you would want more of it. Since prawns cook quickly, you’ll have to careful about the cooking time for this dish.

3.  Arsalan Style Chicken Biryani

Lover of the classic chicken biryani? Don’t fret, this Mughlai-style biryani is going to be heavenly. The interesting bit is that it is served with chicken and potatoes too.
