Raisins are soft, sweet dried grapes that are packed with vital nutrients and health benefits. They are regarded as dried fruits that are consumed as snacks and used in several sweet dishes, granola mixtures, mixed drinks, etc. However, few people are aware of the several kinds of raisins that are found in the kishmish world. Raisins can be black, red, golden, green, or other colours. Every country's raisin variety has a different drying technique. Only the chewy texture and sweet (or sweet and tart) flavour remain largely constant. Here is a list of different types of raisins:

1. Black raisins

Most often used in households, black raisins are the most popular variety of raisins. They come from grapes. The drier they get, the darker their colour. These are chewy and fleshy to eat and range in size from 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm. Their advantages include preventing hair loss, cleansing the intestine and boosting skin health.

2. Sultanas

Sultana raisins take their name from a green grape native to Turkey that is specifically derived from Thompson seedless grapes. Compared to other raisins, they are smaller and have a lighter hue. Sultanas are also known as ‘golden raisins’. Sultanas help regulate blood sugar, aid digestion and reduce inflammation.

3. Red raisins

When it comes to raisins, red grapes produce the most delectable varieties. They are also known as ‘flame raisins’ since that is what people do when they extract them from flame seedless red grapes. Red raisins are large, chubby and dark in colour. They reduce the risk of diabetes, improve eyesight and also aid dental health.

4. Currants

One variety of kishmish that is not very sweet and has a sour flavour is black currants. Their size is relatively tiny. They are also known as Zante currants and are made from seedless, dark-coloured black Corinth grapes. Currants aid immunity, help in healing sore throat and help lower blood pressure.

5. Munakka

In essence, Munakka is a type of dried grape that is larger than other types of raisins. It contains a seed inside. Munakka has significant health benefits by nature. They are brown and pulpy, and help with digestion, strengthen bones and also help in gaining weight.

6. Green Raisins

Green raisins are often a dark green colour and are thin but lengthy in shape. They are juicy, soft, and loaded with minerals and fibre. Green raisins are harvested all over the Middle East and Central Asia. They are good for the heart, aid with digestion and prevent anaemia.
