We love the yellow hue of turmeric added to several Indian dishes and beverages. Be it turmeric tea, golden milk, curries, or pulav, turmeric adds a distinct warm colour to the dishes. Moreover, this flavourful spice is a popular health supplement for a variety of conditions, namely arthritis, allergies, depression, inflammation, and others. Even though it is an organic compound, it isn’t water-soluble. Thus, the problem occurs when the turmeric stains remain on the utensils. Turmeric's colour is stubborn and hard to remove.

Getting rid of turmeric stains can be a major part of kitchen cleaning chores, and sometimes it turns out to be harrowing. Even after a thorough cleaning, most of the time the stains don’t wash off. Besides, if the turmeric stains are left to sit for hours, they become more difficult to remove. Thus, always make it a point to clean up the turmeric stains as soon as possible.

However, it is not as easy as it sounds. The dishwashing detergent does not always end up cleaning the yellow blotch. It can turn out to be really frustrating to scrub endlessly with no actual result. But we are here to end the painful process for you. We have collected certain washing hacks to remove stubborn kitchen stains. Take a look:

  • Glycerin

Glycerin works as a solvent because it is hygroscopic. These qualities allow the stubborn stains to loosen and get softened, allowing them to be removed efficiently. You can take two cups of water, ¼ cups of glycerin, and ¼ cups of liquid soap. Take a washcloth and pat the mixture on the stains. Let it sit for 15 minutes. This should take off the colour of turmeric.

  • Lemon Juice

The citric acid in lemon juice helps break down stains and remove the yellow stains from the utensils. Mix two parts of warm water with one part of lemon juice. Dip the stained utensils in it. Let it rest overnight. Clean with dishwashing soap the next morning. The stains will be removed. Moreover, you can also use vinegar instead of lemon juice. It has the same effect.

  • Baking Soda

Because of its mild alkali properties and because it is abrasive, it helps dislodge particles and thus remove stains. To clean turmeric-stained utensils, make a paste of equal amounts of baking soda and water. Spread this thick paste on the stains. Leave it for 15 minutes, and then clean.

  • Toothpaste

Every toothpaste on the market contains a very mild abrasive substance like silica, baking soda, or dicalcium phosphate. The gritty compounds help buff away surface stains. Rub some toothpaste on the stains. Wash it with liquid dishwasher detergent after 15–20 minutes.

  • Sunlight

If you don’t want to use any chemicals on your dishes because of their residue, try out this most natural method. The stain-removing power of the sun comes from the UV rays, which break down the molecular structure, causing stains to disappear. If you leave the utensils out in the sun for the whole day after washing them, you’ll see the stains fade out.
