With offices opening up and many of us finding our way back to those cubicles, it is not surprising that one would be looking for snacks and quick eats during work hours. When you have the kitchen to yourself over the weekend, make several batches of cookies that you can pack and take to the office. Also, don’t fret if they aren’t turning out soft in the first attempt. There are a few tips and tricks that will help you ace the cookie game. Here are a few hacks that you can try at home.

1.  Flour - The Defining Factor

Choosing the right kind of flour for your cookie is essential. If you want your cookie to rise and turn soft, opt for a self-rising flour, which is basically plain flour with a raising agent. Also, the flour that is being used should be fresh so that your cookies turn out tasty. Measuring and adding the right amount of flour is also important otherwise they might turn hard.

2.  Buttering All The Way

Butter has the moisture and required texture that lends your cookies the softness they deserve. While a lot of recipes suggest that you do not comprise butter, the trick lies in part butter and part shortening. A mix of the two will ensure a cakey texture for your cookies and they will remain soft for a longer time too.

3.  Baking Powder And Cornstarch

Why are these two ingredients important for cookies? Baking powder and cornstarch are added to the batter because it makes the cookies fluffier and softer. Cornstarch helps to bind with water and the resulting mix prevents tougher and harder cookies.

4.   Freeze The Cookie Before Baking

Well, this hack genuinely works. For this, all you need to do is set the cookies in your tray and freeze them in your refrigerator. Since cookies contain butter, it might melt and spread at room temperature, causing the cookies to become thin and crunchy. By freezing, the butter spreads slowly and allows softer cookies.

5.   Do Not Bake Till The End

It is always good to follow instructions and the recipe that is given but sometimes, you need hacks like these to help you get the desired texture. For softer cookies, bake them a little less than the given baking time. Otherwise, they might turn too hard to eat. You can simply take them out in the last one or two minutes so that they bake in their own heat.
