Have you ever opened your refrigerator only to discover that your cherry tomatoes have gone bad and are no longer edible? There are, however, ways around this. We'll go through how to properly store cherry tomatoes in this section. When it comes to storage, it is critical to ensure that you are doing it right. The method used varies depending on what you are keeping (fruit, vegetables). Some items should be kept in the refrigerator, while others should be kept at room temperature. If done incorrectly, however, this will just result in spoiling.
Cherry tomatoes are similar to regular tomatoes, except smaller and with a slightly different flavour. As a result, you may use the same method to store them for both types. Keep your tomatoes out in a room temperature setting for storage. You are allowing them to ripen before putting them in the refrigerator. To ensure a longer shelf life, store your tomatoes in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator.
How to preserve cherry tomatoes
1. In the freezer
To freeze cherry tomatoes, simply remove any stems or debris. Set them in a single layer on a baking sheet and place them in the freezer. After the cherry tomatoes have frozen (approximately a couple of hours), transfer them to a freezer bag or container. When you're set to use them, just take the frozen cherry tomatoes from the freezer. Most recipes that call for cooked or canned tomatoes, such as soups or sauces, can be used straight from the freezer. You can alternatively split your cherry tomatoes in half and roast them with spices, allowing them to cool before freezing the roasted cherry tomatoes.
2. Sun-dried
Sun-dried cherry tomatoes are most likely the most popular method of preserving these little tomatoes. There are several methods for making sun-dried tomatoes. You can produce OVEN dried tomatoes by roasting cherry tomatoes in the oven, or you can remove the moisture with a dehydrator. At 155F, this takes roughly 5-10 hours. You can also sun dry your tomatoes. Sun-drying tomatoes requires warm temperatures and little humidity.
3. In the fridge
Store your tomatoes in the refrigerator for a longer shelf life. This will keep for longer than if left out at room temperature and will be edible for up to two weeks.
4. At room temperature
If you leave your tomatoes at room temperature on the counter, they will survive up to a week before going bad. Simply keep your cherry tomatoes in any container you prefer. As you are keeping them at room temperature, you don't have to take any special measures in this method.
