Sushi has been there for ages. A favourite of the Japanese, the dish is deeply loved in Europe and the US today. In India too, people have started to visit Sushi restaurants to get a taste of the exquisite cuisine. However, experimentation adds fun to cooking. Most of the recipes, that are famous in today’s world, were a result of creative minds. Sushi Pizza is one such dish. Pizzas from Italy and Sushi from Japan, what could be better to have a global culinary experience?

 The Origin Of Sushi Pizza

The dish is likely to have emerged in Toronto, Canada in the early 1990s. A chef named Kaoru Ohsada, working at the Nami Restaurant in Toronto is said to have invented it. He was already working at the restaurant when he thought of doing some experiments with the Sushi.

To give it an Italian twist, Ohsada decided to make some crispy rings with leftover rice and later decided to season them with salmon, onions and tobiko. This gave birth to the first-ever sushi pizza. Unsurprisingly, it was an instant hit at the Nami Restaurant. He later improved the dish with soy-wasabi sauce and spicy mayonnaise.
